The texture of the fibers is nice and soft!The base is a bit thin though, so if you're putting it on hard wood, you may want to supply additional underneath? Also it gets a little bit slippery on nice smooth wooden surfaces, so if not padding, then get some kind of grip material so you don't slip on it.

I ordered 3 of these; and could hardly wait for them to arrive. Was I ever disappointed! They are all going back to Amazon this morning. In the picture they look thick and furry; and you can see some shadings of tan/gold in spots. The description says plush. In reality, they are flat; and the material looks like silky long cream-colored hair to me. They are on a black fabric-type backing which was showing thru along one edge (where they didn't have enough "hair" to cover). Oh, my!!!I believe the manufacturer sent the wrong items to Amazon. I'm hoping I don't have to pay the return shipping.

Purchasing this rug was a wonderful experience. It came shipped in time and tightly wrapped so it was easy to transport to my daughters dorm room. Upon unpacking, the rug exceeded our expectations. It's cozy under your toes and will do a super job hiding dirt and spill stains!
